Mussi's Linux Links

Some of the Linux sites that I visit rather regularly:

  • Groupe romand des Utilisateurs de Linux et de Logiciels Libres A group of French-speaking users of free software (which includes Linux)
  • Linux Today A site with regularly updated Linux links, a bit commercial though, and has recently started accepting money from Microsoft in return for advertising
  • Distrowatch A site which has a good overview over Linux distros
  • Redhat Although gone a bit commercial in the last few years (note, you can still get the source for their products), they still have their head screwed right on and caused a big push for Linux on the servers. Their 'Enterprise Workstation' release lags a bit behind, though, when looking at all the nice new software that is coming out.
  • The K Desktop Environment A (possibly 'the') premier desktop environment on Linux (and a few OSes with Linux 'affinity), with lots nice eyecandy, useful applications, and even a slew of good games
  • Mandrakesoft Mandrakesoft, publisher of MandrakeLinux
  • Penguin Liberation Front The Penguin Liberation Front publishes RPMs for Mandrake which have a somewhat questionable legal status, like dvdcss et al. Also, their latest distro fields KDE, which has some advantages
  • LXer Linux News Another Linux site, definitely less Microsoft oriented.
  • NewsForge THE opensource news site (no, BSD is not dead....)
  • Unixboard.de A Unix discussion forum where people help each other sometimes
  • KernelTrap a Nice website that caters to the folks that always want latest kernel
