The latest Rio conference was visited by a bunch of hypocrites

In RIo de Janeiro, they just finished holding a 'Earth Summit'. However, as usual, the only thing that happened is that lots of people generated lots of CO2 to get there:

The estimated carbon emissions of flying business class return Brussels-Rio de Janeiro is almost five tonnes of CO2 per passenger.

According to this, there were 2000 participants, 60 alone from the EU.

This basically means that the climate conference, for air travel alone, blew 10000 tons of the oh-so-dangerous CO2 into the atmosphere, not counting any car journeys or coal burning power plants that had to produce more electricity to make the air conditioning run correctly.

And ontop of it, alone the UK contribution to that 'Earth Summit' cost the taxpayers in EU member countries a whole lot of money:

The European Commission today said it cost £475,000 to send the delegates, including Commission President José Manuel Barroso, along with an entourage of over 60 to the Rio+20 conference.

I have no clue where Brussels has the money to send people to a conference, and then have the gall to claim they did something for 'sustainability' and the 'climate'. They are just a bunch of hypocrites. And our federal consillor Doris Leuthard can integrate seamlessly into that bunch, but then, what was expected of a dyed-in-the-wool green?
