How the US could save a lot of money

Bruce Schneier, as usual, right on target:

Exactly two things have made airplane travel safer since 9/11: reinforcing the cockpit door, and convincing passengers they need to fight back. Everything else has been a waste of money. Add screening of checked bags and airport workers and we’re done.

Add a mandatory, brutal and merciless punitive expedition ontop of that. If terrorists know that any attack on the west will just kill hundreds of thousands of muslims in return through a USAF air raid, support will vanish over night, even if the populace is completely crazed about Mohammeds exploits.

No more cavity searches, no more stupid 'anti-terrorism' measures against their own citizens, just an assurance that each and every western terror victim will cost Islam a thousand-fold bodycount. But this would require politicians with something called "cojones".
